A change in the weather forcast enabled us to leave Jervis Bay and head for Port Hacking. We once again motored through the night and arrived in the dark on a low tide.
Point Perpendicular is the north head of Jervis Bay and the sea was very rough until we cleared the area around it.
Freya’s B & G radar picked up some approaching storm fronts with uncanny accuracy so we experienced some quite severe rain and lightening while we were going through. Luckily they didn’t last long.
Arriving in Port Hacking we had decided to anchor in Gunnamatta Bay. The channel in was well marked but a little nerve wracking as parts of it were extremely close to shore. The captain joked later that day that we were so close that he could read the name of the maker of the navigational sign.
After getting a couple of hours 😴 we went ashore for breakfast at Cronulla.
Cronulla beach is where one of my favourite movies was filmed, Puberty Blues .
Today we are off to the RSL for lunch and to explore a little. We plan to attend tomorrow’s Anzac Day service and catch up with a friend from Marine Rescue.
We left Bermagui at 8am yesterday all excited for a great sail up to Jervis Bay. The light tail winds predicted turned into quite a strong breeze fair up our clacker! The waves were also building and turned into roughly 4 – 5 meters high. Freya surfed along averaging 6kn peaking at 9kn.
The autopilot decided to stop working about 6 hrs in. We went into Broulee Island to recommission it and have a quick lunch. 30 minutes saw us back out in the muck pushing on.
After a very nasty 15hrs of sailing and sloshing about we anchored in Darling Roads just inside Jervis Bay on the south side. We were hungry and tired so had a light dinner and hit the sack.
This morning we woke to see an absolutely gorgeous beach so it kind of made it worth it!
We will Easter here in JB and push on to Sydney sometime next week.
For now there are geocaches to find, swimming and exploring, and of course socializing with our sailing friends.
Happy Easter from Freya and crew xo
